Cities are leading the charge in combating global warming by adopting sustainable solutions and passing forward-thinking policies. Yet cities are also on the front-lines of climate impacts such as flooding, extreme heat, and air quality.

The City’s 2030 Climate Action Plan (CAP) describes the process EPA will embark on over this decade to both reduce the city’s impact on the environment and increase our resilience to the impacts of the climate crisis. Building on the success of the City’s 2011 CAP, the 2030 CAP includes 72 actions across 4 focus areas — Energy & Homes, Transportation, Waste, and Resilience — developed with input from hundreds of city residents over a four-year collaborative development process.

The 2030 CAP sets an ambitious goal of a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030. Each year, the City releases a CAP Implementation Report to update the city on current progress, upcoming projects, and future timelines as well as a Greenhouse Gas Inventory which provides the most up to date information on greenhouse gas emissions from each sector of the city.
