Addison Avenue Safe Routes to Schools and Green Street Improvements
Project Description
As part of the City of East Palo Alto’s Addison Avenue Safe Routes to Schools and Green Street Improvements Project, new curb, gutter, sidewalk, storm drain pipes, and bioretention areas will be installed along Addison Avenue between East Bayshore Road and Bay Road (about 2,000 feet). The project involves the use of full depth reclamation (FDR) for pavement structural replacement. FDR will occur/ this method will be used between East Bayshore Road and Garden Street, and base failure repairs between Garden Street and Bay Road.
The project will improve pedestrian safety by building sidewalks along both sides of Addison Avenue. Curb ramps that meet current ADA standards will be provided at all comers. Pavement marking and signage will be provided to designate the road as a Class III bike route. Curb extensions will be incorporated at intersection comers as well as at intermediate mid-block locations. These will replace the speed humps that currently exist. The curb extensions will enhance pedestrian safety by improving pedestrians' visibility to approaching vehicles as well as by slowing vehicles on Addison Avenue.
The construction contract was awarded on April 5, 2022 and construction began and is estimated to be completed Fall 2023. Questions regarding the project can be sent to engineering@cityofepa.org.
