Clone of US101/ University Avenue Pedestrian Overcrossing and Interchange Project

During the month of April 2025, the public can expect continued progress on the project. The Contractor is currently completing work in the median and will begin installation of new lighting and fencing for the bridge. Additionally, installation of new ADA-compliant ramps and updated traffic signals is scheduled to commence this month. Throughout the duration of the project, the Contractor will maintain a clean and orderly jobsite to ensure safety and minimize disruptions. The City estimates completion in early October.

Brief Scope.  The US 101 / University Avenue Interchange Improvements include (1) constructing a pedestrian overcrossing of US 101, north of the existing University Avenue Overcrossing; (2) constructing a Class I bikeway connecting the pedestrian overcrossing to Woodland Avenue to the west, and Donohoe Street to the east; (2) widening the US 101 southbound off-ramp to University Avenue; (3) reconstructing the northbound off-ramp to University Avenue; (4) reconstructing a portion of the University Avenue between US 101 and Woodland Avenue; (5) modifying existing traffic signals; (6) installing new street lights; (7) improving the University Avenue intersections at Donohoe Street and Woodland Avenue; and (8) installing landscaping and irrigation.

Funding.  Funding for the project has been provided from Federal (HPP Grant), State (SB1 Grant), and Local (SMCTA and Stanford Recreation Mitigation Grants) sources.  The construction project will be administered by the City and Ghirardelli Associates.

The City publicly acknowledges the Grant by receiving credit to the County in the project-related materials including newsletters, brochures, and internet messages.

This project has been awarded by City Council to MCM Construction on 4/4/2023. The project notice to proceed has been issued in July and construction is estimated to begin late Summer. The project plan set can be found here.
