Community Policing

Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies which utilize community and departmental partnerships, modern problem-solving techniques, and technology to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues.

It also points to the need for a partnership between the police department and community members; a willingness to communicate and participate together, to offer mutual support around issues of concern, and for the police to be a recognized and valued part of the community. To best combat crime, social disorder, and fear of crime, we need to work together, as a community.

Our department holds monthly "beat meetings" where we update our community members with current crime statistics and have open conversations about their concerns. For organizational purposes, our city is divided into four patrol "beats" which are essentially the assigned areas of responsibility for patrol officers.

Currently the Beat Meetings are taking place once a month online via zoom. Beat One and Two take place every third Thursday of the month at 6:30pm. Beat Two meets every first Thursday of the month at 6:30pm and Beat Three takes place every second Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm. Please refer to the attached beat map to locate your home and determine which beat meeting would be the best for you to attend.
