Chief's Community Update - September 22, 2024

EPAPD Star

Good evening East Palo Alto Community,

Last Tuesday our City Council approved my request to enter into a one year contract with Flock Safety, for a one year pilot program to bring Automated License Plate Recognition cameras and technology to our community.  I firmly believe the ALPR cameras will enhance our public safety and significantly increase our ability to solve crimes.

For those who missed the Council meeting and did not have an opportunity to review the staff report, but would like to know more about ALPR's and specifically Flock, I took the liberty of adding the staff report and presentation slides.

For anyone who may want to watch my presentation at the City Council meeting including our discussion, please click on the following link beginning around the 34 minute mark.

We will be developing our website to include a page dedicated to ALPR where we will provide the Flock transparency portal and a chronological list of significant Flock incidents.

Although the technology has been approved, it will take some time to work through the business side of things and get the cameras installed and operational.  Please stay tuned for future updates.

Thank you for your continued support,

Jeff Liu
