Chief's Community Update - December 29, 2024
Dear East Palo Alto Community,
As we prepare to welcome the New Year, the East Palo Alto Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our residents. In accordance with our annual practice, every able-bodied sworn member of our department will be on duty and deployed throughout our community. Our primary focus will be proactive enforcement to prevent dangerous activities that could jeopardize public safety.
Our officers will be actively:
- Identifying and apprehending impaired drivers.
- Addressing individuals found in possession of firearms.
- Monitoring and responding to reports of celebratory gunfire and illegal fireworks.
- Responding to calls for service
Historically, some community members have celebrated the New Year by discharging firearms at midnight or setting off fireworks. This type of celebration is extremely dangerous and cannot take place. Such actions pose significant risks to our neighbors, loved ones, and the broader community. Officers will be taking enforcement action against any individuals engaging in these unlawful activities.
We cannot achieve a safer East Palo Alto without your help. We ask you to join us in keeping our community safe by being our eyes and ears. If you witness any dangerous or illegal activity, please report it immediately by calling 650-321-1112 or 911 in case of an emergency.
Together, we can make this New Year’s Eve a safe and joyous occasion for everyone. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our community’s well-being.
Wishing you a safe and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Jeff Liu
Chief of Police
