Chief's Community Update - December 23, 2024
Parking is an important part of keeping our streets safe and accessible for everyone. Community members have expressed concerns about a perceived lack of parking enforcement. I want you to know that we’ve heard you and are increasing our focus on this issue.
In Fiscal Year 2023-2024 (July 1 through June 30), our department issued 10,488 parking citations (6,704 for street sweeping). From July 1, 2024 to the end of October, we’ve issued 2,150 citations (1,281 for street sweeping) as part of our efforts to address parking concerns. However, we can’t do it alone—we need your help!
If you notice abandoned vehicles or parking violations, please report them by:
Calling our Parking Hotline at **650-853-5940**
Sending an email to **parkingenforcement@cityofepa.org**
Please note that the hotline is monitored during regular business hours. For an immediate response outside of these times, you can call 650-321-1112.
Our most common parking violations are street sweeping, expired registration, red curb violations, failing to obey parking signs, and parking on the sidewalk. To avoid receiving these parking citations and contribute to a safer community, please:
Know the street sweeping schedule on your street and set a reminder to move your vehicle to another location during the street sweeping time frame. Remember, we enforce the restrictions on the sign, not whether or not the sweeper has swept.
Pay attention to, and abide by parking restriction signs
Ensure your vehicle is registered and the correct registration tab is on your license plate
When parking, check the color of the curb to confirm it is not red or yellow
Park in the direction of traffic
Do not park on, or block, any portion of the sidewalk. This also applies to parking in a driveway with a portion of the vehicle blocking the sidewalk.
Together, we can ensure parking remains fair and accessible for all. Thank you for your partnership in making East Palo Alto a safer place!
Sincerely,
Jeff Liu
