CalHome Loans for ADUs/JADUs
The City of East Palo Alto and EPACANDO (East Palo Alto Community Alliance and Neighborhood Development Organization) are pleased to launch the East Palo Alto CalHome ADU/JADU Loan Program!
The program, funded by a $2 million CalHome award from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), will provide low-interest, deferred-payment loans to East Palo Alto homeowners for rehabilitation, repair, or new construction of an accessory dwelling unit or junior accessory dwelling unit.
East Palo Alto homeowners with a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) are eligible to apply for a gap loan of up to $100,000. EPACANDO, whose successful “CANDO ADU” program currently serves 65 households in East Palo Alto, will provide technical assistance to all applicants.
The CalHome ADU/JADU program and other ADU initiatives are the product of years of successful collaboration between the City and community partners, including EPACANDO, the members of the Second Unit Anti-Displacement Task Force, and the Second Unit Working Group. A key component of the City’s 2018-2023 Affordable Housing Strategy, finding innovative ways to support ADU/JADU production in East Palo Alto remains a City priority.
