Grants Program - Notice of Funding Availability
On September 1, 2020, the East Palo Alto City Council appropriated up to $50,000 of the City’s General Fund Reserve to support the census outreach and collection efforts. The City of East Palo Alto will be accepting proposals for eligible Non-profits in doing business in the City of East Palo Alto who can demonstrate their ability to help increase the city’s percentage of residents participating in the count. As a result, the city is offering the opportunity to provide city funding that can be utilized to facilitate resident participation in both East Palo Alto and Belle Haven Area of Menlo Park .

The following guidelines will be used for the distribution of City funds for Census 2020:
- Applicants for the East Palo Alto “All of us” Census 2020 Grant must submit a proposal by close of business at 5:00pm September 8, 2020
- All proposals should be sent to Marie McKenzie, at mmckenzie@cityofepa.org
- Restriction of eligibility only available for local East Palo Alto non-profit organizations
- Maximum grant awards of $7,500
- Expenses to be restricted and only those expenses incurred after September 1, 2020
- Scoring Criteria: 50 points for total # of individuals contacts non-profit expects to make resulting from city funding, 50 points for capacity; the organizations ability to perform; Total 100 points
- The award will be made on September 15, 2020
- The work product must be completed between September 16 through 30, 2020
For the purposes of this grant, non-profit is defined as tax-exempt organizations such as organizations that ate exempt under Sections 501(c)3, 501(c)4, 501(c)6 of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), or an organizations that files a form 990, Form 990EZ, or a Form 990-N with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and that serves East Palo Alto Residents and must to the majority of their service business in East Palo Alto.
Applicant Orientation will:
- Describe East Palo Alto’s Grants Program and program requirements for this grant
- Respond to questions from potential applicants
- Review the application process, review deliverables and the pay-out of the grant
- Obtain feedback from applicants regarding the grants process
Organizations that do not attend the orientation will still be eligible to apply.
The award of a contract, and there are no allowable renewal or extension thereof, is subject to allocations made by the East Palo Alto City Council and subject to the availability of funds.
